Door trim - Blending in or Setting off ?
Casing choices for dramatic effects or Practical appearance
Trim around your doors, entrances and thruways can be the highlight of your room or it can be made to higlight your doors. Choosing to match your door's color and staining or the room's trim molding will be one of your main factors in trimming out a home.
Other Door Trim choices include
Sidelights
- Two portions on each side of a door that holds glass, acrylic light blocks and sometimes wood panels in the lower halves.
Fluted Casings & Plinth Blocks
- Usually grooved vertical pieces of door trim that meet a piece of non-fluted trim called a plinth block which finishes the casework down to the floor.
Decorartive Head Casings & Pediments
- Consider the time period and style of your home. Built-up moldings above your door can be the most dramatic molding in your home.
Rosettes
- Decorative corner blocks that are used in top coreners of your door trim that allows for butt joints instead of mitered joints.
Remember, wide molding can make a small door look larger in size. Also, door trim shouldn't overshadow a door's beauty and doorway casing shouldn't outshine a front door's trim.
